Player Evaluation Process

PLAYER EVALUATION PROCESS

The Norwell Basketball Association ("NBA") offers Norwell boys in grades 4 through 8 the opportunity to play competitive basketball against local towns.  The NBA will be fielding at least two (2) teams for each grade. Depending on turnout and participation the NBA may expand each grade to three (3) or more teams provided this is a reliable option with sufficient players and coaches.

The evaluation process consists of having disinterested parties complete assessments based on skill level displayed at the evaluation. No person who completes player assessments is allowed to have a son participating in that particular evaluation.  The season-ending player assessments from coaches in the prior year will also be considered when appropriate. The goal is to have players rostered on teams based on their skill level and in a manner that would benefit the player, the team, and the program. This process is not perfect but it is the best known method for forming competitive teams that can perform in the division they are ultimately placed in.

Over the course of the past year the NBA has interviewed people affiliated with neighboring town programs to make sure our process is comparable to those communities. The NBA has determined that the process we employ is very similar, if not identical, to the procedures used by these towns.

Please be aware that teams from each age level will play in the following respective divisions:

4th grade:     Division 2, 3, and Starland Winter League subject to participation

5th grade:     Division 2, 3, and Starland Winter League subject to participation

6th grade:     Division 1, 3, and Starland Winter League subject to participation

7th grade:     Division 2, 3, and Starland Winter League subject to participation

8th grade:     Division 3, 4, and Starland Winter League subject to participation

Please understand that given limited resources, there could be player cuts at each grade level. For questions concerning the tryouts or the NBA program, please email norwelltravelbball@gmail.com.
